□ 제 목 : Computational Approaches to Supramolecular Functions
□ 내 용 : Recent advances in synthetic methods and experimental techniques produced a number of interesting chemical phenomena. However, many of those phenomena are waiting for the detailed understanding for their function at the molecular level. To this end, both theoreticians and experimentalists need to be cooperative. In this talk, I will introduce my recent studies to understand molecular functions and molecular assembly observed experimentally in severalsubjects such as molecular switch, molecular electronic device, and molecular assembly.
1. A new fluorescent chemosensor with two different types of cation binding sites on the lower rims of a 1,3-alternate calix[4]arene (host) is synthesized. Two pyrene moieties linked to a cation recognition unit composed of two amide groups form a strong excimer in solution. The excimer fluorescence is quenched by Pb2+, but revived by addition of K+ to the PbP2+-ligand complex.
2. Benzene based molecules have been studied as probable electronics. We studied the role of molecular orbitals in the presence of external electric field on the conducting properties through the benzene molecule.
3. We recently studied a fullerene-porphyrin-fullerene triad, and found a possible conformational change depending on the charge state (neutral or anion). In other words, the cis and trans conformers can be exchanged depending on the additional electron. We suggest this system can function as an electrochemical machinery though the experiment can not be done at this moment.
4. Combined with the experimental evidences, the computational calculations and modeling can be helpful to understand the assembled structures and intermolecular interactions operating in them.
