Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) College of Arts (Dean Lee Mi-bae) conducted a joint firefighting drill with the Geumam 119 Safety Center of the Jeonju Deokjin Fire Station at College of Arts Building 3 on October 7 to enhance fire response capabilities and create a safe educational environment.
About 50 faculty, staff and students participated in the exercise, which was organized to practice step-by-step response procedures—such as rapid incident reporting, evacuation and initial fire suppression—and to assess the cooperation system with firefighting agencies.
The drill simulated a fire incident in College of Arts Building 3. Participants practiced procedures for each situation, including notifying others of the fire, calling 119, evacuating to a safe location, and removing important documents and items. The campus fire brigade guided evacuations according to their duties and conducted initial suppression training using fire extinguishers and indoor fire hydrants.
In particular, when initial suppression failed and the fire spread, participants worked jointly with the fire brigade to extinguish the blaze and reviewed the response procedures. The exercise also focused on preventing safety accidents during evacuation and enhancing each member's ability to perform assigned tasks.
Dean Lee Mi-bae, chief of the campus fire brigade, emphasized in a post-drill debriefing the importance of regular preparedness and members' safety awareness. He also urged everyone to pay attention to safety during evacuations—such as using stairways—and to familiarize themselves with fire equipment operation and appropriate actions so they can respond quickly in real situations.
The College of Arts will continue to work with firefighting agencies to continuously review fire prevention and safety management systems and to create an educational environment where members can feel secure.
