Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition undergraduate student Shim Gyu‑hyung, Kim Jun‑hee(Food Service and Culinary Science Laboratory, under the supervision of Professor Noh Jeong‑ok) recently won the Grand Prize at the 18th Buan Gomso Salted Seafood &King Prawn Festival–held ‘Gom-Shellin Gourmet Meal Kit National Cooking Competition’.

The undergraduates attracted attention with a menu featuring Buan’s representative foods, Gomso salted seafood and king prawns.

In particular, their cooking method and food styling—which reduced the fishy taste of a pasta sauce made with anchovy jeotgal and king prawns and enhanced a clean savory flavor—received high praise from the judges.

Undergraduate student Kim Jun‑hee said “Under Professor Noh Jeong‑ok’s guidance, I have been participating in product development using local agricultural and marine products, and I am pleased to have received such a meaningful award at my first cooking competition”.

JBNU Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition conducts interdisciplinary education and research integrating food science, nutrition, and foodservice, and strives to train food and nutrition professionals.
