The JBNU G-Lamp Project Group and the Chonnam National University G-Lamp Project Group signed a memorandum of understanding on the 7th to establish a cooperative framework for strengthening basic science research capabilities and joint development in the materials and energy fields.
At the signing ceremony, JBNU G-Lamp Project Group Director Lee Jeong-hwan (Department of Biological Sciences) and Chonnam National University G-Lamp Project Group Director Park Dae-hee, along with project group staff from both universities, attended and expressed their commitment to cooperation.
This agreement was initiated to expand collaborative research and personnel exchanges based on the research capacities and expertise of the two project groups, and to link research infrastructure and project management experience. It aims to establish a sustained inter-university cooperation system to jointly support the generation of research outcomes and the training of specialized personnel.
JBNU and Chonnam National University were both selected for the 2024 G-Lamp (LAMP) program and are conducting research in the same materials and energy field among the 12 core areas of basic science. Having begun their projects at the same time and accumulated research outcomes in a shared research area, they are well positioned to share strengths and experience and to broaden avenues for collaboration.
Although the two universities are competitors in stage evaluations, this agreement emphasizes a partner spirit focused on the shared goal of advancing basic science. It signifies an intention to use each other's achievements as motivation for growth while connecting institutional strengths to jointly deepen and broaden research.
The main cooperation items under the agreement include: ▲Identifying collaborative research areas and supporting technology development and commercialization; ▲Training skilled personnel and exchanging R&D professionals, thereby strengthening systems for cultivating and exchanging global experts; ▲Operating and advising on R&D infrastructure to create an integrated research environment; ▲Establishing a cooperative network and providing administrative and financial support for technology development, personnel training, and infrastructure operation; ▲Mutual cooperation and support for establishing a research framework in the materials and energy science fields.
Through this, the two project groups have established a cooperative foundation spanning from identifying research topics to training personnel and creating research environments. By including not only exchanges among researchers but also the operation of supporting infrastructure and administrative and financial support, the agreement is significant in that it creates conditions for sustained research cooperation.
At the mini-seminar held alongside the signing ceremony, major research outcomes from each university were shared. The two project groups presented the main content and results of their university-led research and took time to deepen mutual understanding of their research directions and approaches within the common materials and energy field.
The mini-seminar served to translate the agreement into concrete academic exchange. By jointly reviewing each university's research outcomes and strengths, it provided a starting point for concretizing the identification of future collaborative research areas and researcher exchanges.
The agreement is expected to serve as an opportunity to share the research experience each university has individually accumulated and to develop it into a joint research foundation. In particular, cooperation that links specialized personnel and research infrastructure centered on the shared research fields is expected to enhance the research capacities of both universities and broaden the base of basic science research.
The JBNU G-Lamp Project Group will seek various cooperation opportunities, such as sharing research outcomes and academic exchanges with other participating universities, and will expand its outreach as a research collaboration network that connects each university's research strengths and fosters mutual growth.
