JBNU rose in the "2027 THE World University Rankings," climbing from the 800 band last year to the global 600 band (651–700), showing a steep upward trend. Clear growth in the industry and internationalization categories, combined with improvements in educational and research capabilities, increased the university's overall competitiveness.
In the "2027 QS World University Rankings" published in June by the global ranking organization QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), JBNU also surged 27 places compared with the previous year to rank 677, and has since firmly settled within the global top 600.
The assessment announced by the UK-based global ranking organization Times Higher Education (THE) covered 2,297 universities worldwide. It综合ed 17 indicators across five areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and internationalization.
JBNU improved its scores in every assessment area compared with the previous year. Its overall score rose by 4.9 points, from 37.8 to 42.7.
The gains were led by the industry and internationalization areas. In the industry category, the score increased by 20.9 points to 90.3, ranking JBNU 213th globally. In particular, the industry income per academic staff indicator rose by 38.0 points to 97.4, and the patents indicator also improved, resulting in high evaluations for the university's research collaboration with industry and technology transfer capabilities.
The internationalization score also rose from 36.7 to 47.3, an increase of 10.6 points. Sub-indicators such as the proportions of international students and faculty and the share of internationally co-authored publications all improved, demonstrating an expanding international foundation for education and research.
Education and research areas showed steady gains as well. The teaching score rose from 33.3 to 37.6, and the research environment score increased from 29.2 to 34.4. Notably, the indicator for international journal publications per academic staff rose by 25.1 points to 80.3. The research quality score also improved from 46.7 to 48.3, driven by enhancements in research strengths and the impact of high-quality papers.
In the QS rankings published in June, the proportion of international students recorded the largest improvement, rising by 12.1 points year on year. In the "2026 THE Impact Rankings," announced the same month, JBNU ranked 49th globally, entering the global top 50—continuing an upward trend in the university's social contribution, sustainability, and core competencies such as education, research, and Industry-University Cooperation.
To date, JBNU has promoted educational innovation and Industry-University Cooperation centered on the Glocal University 30 project and has expanded global research collaboration, including collaborative research with Purdue University in the United States. Going forward, the university plans to use these evaluation results to cultivate its strength areas and to redouble efforts to produce excellent research outcomes and expand international collaborative research.
JBNU is also continuing activities to share the university's innovation experiences on the international stage. President Yang O-bong attended "THE Digital Universities Asia 2026" on September 24 in Chengdu at the University of Electronic Science and Technology and introduced JBNU's digital transformation strategy and innovation cases, presenting sustainable growth directions for universities in response to declining school-age populations.
President Yang O-bong stated, "This achievement is the result of all members' joint efforts to strengthen the substance of education and research and to pursue Industry-University Cooperation and internationalization. We will continue to share JBNU's innovation experiences with universities worldwide and strive to become a global Top 100 research university whose excellent research outcomes contribute to regional and industrial development."
