Through the National Research Foundation of Korea's support program for developing universities leading international cooperation, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Vietnam Project Group (Director: Professor Nam‑su Kim), which is promoting capacity building at Vinh University in Vietnam, recently visited the university to review its education and research infrastructure. The group actively publicized the outcomes of the collaboration to newly admitted students and expanded the foundation for attracting outstanding international students.

During the second visit of the fourth year, the Project Group participated in the new student welcome ceremony of Vinh University's College of Agricultural Resources. It presented the main outcomes and the educational support programs of the Project to Establish the Department of Veterinary Medicine at Vinh University and Strengthen Education and Research Capacity in Animal Husbandry (hereinafter the ALiVE Project).

The Project Group introduced its international education and research exchange programs to new and continuing students, faculty, and industry representatives, supporting students in exploring global career paths.

In particular, an ALiVE Project research assistant from Vietnam, an outstanding international student, attracted attention by sharing experiences of studying and researching in Korea. Local students were able to understand Korea's education and research environment through the senior student's experience and to concretize plans for studying abroad and career paths related to their majors.

These education and research exchanges have translated into concrete recruitment outcomes for graduate programs.

One faculty member and one alumnus from Vinh University were selected in 2025 as recipients of the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) and enrolled in graduate programs in the Department of Veterinary Medicine at JBNU. The faculty-origin international student is continuing in the doctoral program, and the alumnus is continuing in the master's program, pursuing study and research.

This year, one more student from Vinh University entered JBNU's Department of Veterinary Medicine master's program as a regular international student. Based on the ALiVE Project, educational cooperation between the two universities is leading to graduate school enrollment by local talent and ongoing exchange of human resources.

Representatives from CP Group, a large company operating in Vietnam, also attended the event. They introduced the company and its key projects and presented scholarships to students. With the university's educational support programs and the company's talent development activities presented together, the event became a venue for students to understand industry sites related to their majors and to explore career options.

Through these meetings, the Project Group informed local students and stakeholders of the collaboration outcomes between JBNU and Vinh University and enhanced understanding of studying in Korea and international exchange. It also meaningfully expanded touchpoints that can connect collaboration outcomes to career planning and ultimately lead to attracting outstanding international students.

Support to improve practical training environments continues steadily. Following a phased expansion of laboratory and practicum bases in basic and preventive veterinary medicine according to the veterinary curriculum, this year the Project Group has concentrated on strengthening clinical veterinary education. After providing three veterinary gas anesthesia machines and three patient monitors in June, the recent visit added one veterinary ultrasound diagnostic imaging device to Vinh University's shared experiment and training center, strengthening the clinical training base that links imaging diagnosis with anesthesia and surgery.

In preparation for the third local dispatch scheduled for January next year, the Project Group also coordinated detailed schedules and operational plans for volunteer education activities, Technology Transfer, academic and industry–university collaboration seminars, and administrative staff workshops. It reviewed the equipment and practicum environment required for each program in advance to establish a stable basis for subsequent project implementation.

Professor Nam‑su Kim, Director of the JBNU Vietnam Project Group, said, 'We support local students in developing their major competencies in better educational environments and in broadening career possibilities through studying in Korea and international exchange. Based on ongoing education and research cooperation with Vinh University, we will expand recruitment of outstanding international students and talent exchange between the two universities.'
