Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Divsion of Public Science (Head Jeong Tae-jong) is strengthening students' readiness for careers in professional and public sectors through career education that links alumni and practitioners active in the legal field and professional certification sectors with students.
The Divsion of Public Science organizes education based on law and policy studies that integrates preparation for professional qualification exams, field experiences, and alumni mentoring. Rather than limiting career information to the classroom, the program helps students clarify their aptitudes and career paths by providing direct exposure to courts, law firms, and labor law practice sites.
Recently, the division invited an alumnus labor practitioner to present on labor law practice and the process of obtaining professional certification. On September 28, the division held the 7th 'Public JOB學' career lecture at the Large Auditorium on the first floor of the Global Talent Center, inviting Kang Dong-hee, Chief Labor Consultant of Myeongjin Labor Law Office.
This lecture was part of the national university development project's tailored program to strengthen employment and start-up support in the public sector and one of JBNU's practical competency education programs. Undergraduate students and students interested in the field of certified labor consultants attended and heard about the main duties and career paths of certified labor consultants, the qualification exam preparation process, step-by-step study strategies, and employment strategies.
The speaker, Kang Dong-hee, is an alumnus of JBNU's Divsion of Public Science and passed the 33rd Certified Labor Consultant exam in 2024 while still a student. Now serving as the Chief Labor Consultant at Myeongjin Labor Law Office in Seoul, he candidly shared with juniors his experiences from preparing for a career while at university to adapting to the labor law field after passing the exam.
He particularly received positive responses from students by presenting specific cases illustrating the concerns and difficulties encountered during exam preparation, the tasks performed in practice, and the competencies required after entering the profession.
Since 2023, the Divsion of Public Science has organized the 'Public JOB學' lecture series, inviting graduates from diverse professional fields—such as lawyers, judicial researchers, certified public accountants, public legal officers, certified labor consultants, and certified appraisers. By sharing their experiences in exam preparation, job understanding, and career development, alumni help current students develop more realistic and concrete career plans.
Gil Chae-eun, a third-year student in the Divsion of Public Science who attended the lecture, said, “I was able to learn more about the profession of certified labor consultant, and hearing directly from a nearby alumnus made it more relatable and meaningful.”
Jeong Tae-jong, Head of the Divsion of Public Science, stated, “The opportunity for students to learn from the experiences of alumni working in professional qualification fields and to experience the legal field firsthand greatly helps turn vague dreams into concrete career plans. We will continue to strengthen ties with alumni and the regional legal community and expand tailored education to support entry into professional and public sectors.”
