The Deokjin‑gu Children and Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center in Jeonju (Center Director No Jeong‑ok, Professor, Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)) is conducting on‑site education for older adults who use local social welfare meal service sites to raise awareness of proper fluid intake and its importance.

The program was delivered from September 15 to 22 to 10 social welfare meal service sites in Deokjin‑gu, Jeonju, reaching 219 participants. In particular, a hands‑on traditional songpyeon (rice cake) making practice was included to increase participation and satisfaction ahead of the Chuseok holiday.

The main topics were ▲ the physiological functions of fluids and the need for fluid intake ▲ symptoms of dehydration that occur when fluid is insufficient ▲ the recommended daily fluid intake and correct fluid consumption methods ▲ a hands‑on traditional songpyeon making cooking practice for Chuseok, presented in a varied format.

No Jeong‑ok, the center director, said, "As people age, body water volume and muscle mass decrease and the sense of thirst is dulled, increasing the risk of dehydration. Through this program, we hope participants understand the importance of fluid intake and consistently practice correct water‑drinking habits not only in facilities but also at home."

Meanwhile, the Deokjin‑gu Children and Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center in Jeonju operates with support from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, the Jeollabuk‑do provincial government, and the City of Jeonju pursuant to Article 21 of the Special Act on Safety Management of Children's Dietary Life and Article 5 of the Act on Support for Meal Safety for Social Welfare Facilities for the Elderly, Persons with Disabilities, etc. The center provides systematic hygiene, safety, and nutrition management services to meal service sites that are not required to employ a dietitian and is leading efforts to improve meal service standards in the local community.
