The Department of Chemistry at JBNU jointly held the '2nd 2026 JBNU-SKKU BK21 Four Joint Symposium on Inorganic/Material Chemistry' with the Department of Chemistry at Sungkyunkwan University on September 18.

The symposium was organized with the support of JBNU's Department of Chemistry 4th-stage BK21 Glocal Future Chemistry Talent Education and Research Team and the JBNU-BK Innovation Promotion Team, and it was successfully held as a meaningful opportunity for graduate students and researchers from both universities to share research outcomes in inorganic and materials chemistry and to expand academic exchange.

In particular, the fact that graduate students took a leading role throughout the symposium—from planning to program design and event management—made the event especially meaningful. By directly planning and operating the academic event, the graduate students were able to develop not only the academic communication skills required of researchers but also collaboration and event-management capabilities.

Through the symposium, graduate students from JBNU's Department of Chemistry and Sungkyunkwan University's Department of Chemistry had the opportunity to share diverse research topics, different research infrastructures, and research methodologies in inorganic and materials chemistry, to discover new research ideas, and to strengthen next-generation research competitiveness.

Participating graduate students presented their own research at the symposium and engaged in various questions and critical discussions, thereby cultivating the ability to communicate and present research logically. This served as an opportunity to build confidence and practical experience to demonstrate their capabilities as researchers at future domestic and international conferences and academic activities.

Lee Seung-jae, Department Chair and BK21 Team Leader of JBNU's Department of Chemistry, and Go Du‑hyun, Director at Sungkyunkwan University, stated, "We will expand internal and external academic networks through continued academic exchange and research collaboration, and share excellent educational outcomes through the operation of graduate-student-centered research and education programs." The two universities plan to continue holding joint symposia regularly to activate academic exchange among graduate students and to continuously expand research collaboration and human networks in the field of inorganic and materials chemistry.
