JBNU is launching a recruitment-linked Industry–University Collaboration program with major domestic defense companies. The program covers company-demand-based, customized education, selection of industry–university scholarship recipients, internships and field training, and recruitment.

JBNU's Department of Advanced Defense Industry announced that it held a "Workshop on Operating the Defense Industry Customized Talent Development and Recruitment-Linked Collaboration Program" on the 17th at the Jeonju Shilla Stay Hotel. Attendees included JBNU officials and representatives of the defense companies and related organizations that signed a memorandum of understanding in June.

The workshop was organized to translate the June 26 MOU on the "Defense Industry Customized Talent Development and Recruitment-Linked Collaboration Program" into concrete educational and hiring outcomes. The agreement involves 15 defense companies and related organizations, including Hyundai Rotem, KAI, LIG D&A, HS Hyosung Advanced Materials, Danam Systems, Deck Carbon, DN Solutions, Rotec, Bryston, Vinatec, I3 Systems, AluForce, Poongsan FNS, Kamtic Comprehensive Technology Institute, and Hansil Apparel.

Since signing the agreement, JBNU conducted a needs survey of participating companies on recruitment plans and required personnel, job-specific competency requirements, preferred majors and qualification requirements, demand for field training and internships, and curriculum improvement items.

At the workshop, participants shared the company-specific survey results and discussed detailed operational measures, including ▲Company-Tailored Course Offerings ▲Special Lectures and Seminars by Company Personnel ▲Appointment of Company Personnel as Adjunct Professors ▲Selection of Industry–University Scholarship Recipients ▲Capstone Design and Company-Linked Projects ▲Collaborative Research ▲Internships and Field Training ▲Recruitment Linkage for Program Completers.

In particular, JBNU plans to move away from applying the same curriculum to all companies and instead differentiate educational content according to each company’s business area, technological characteristics, and hiring positions. The core is to establish a demand-driven talent development system in which the university and companies jointly define the desired talent profile and job competencies and reflect them in curricular and extracurricular programs.

The program will operate for undergraduate students in the Department of Advanced Defense Industry and the Defense Industry Convergence Major, for the Advanced AI Defense Industry Convergence Department, for master's and doctoral students in participating convergence majors, and for graduates of the "Defense AI Bootcamp." Based on company-specific talent needs, JBNU will select industry–university scholarship recipients and program participants, and provide internships, field training, and recruitment linkage opportunities to students who successfully complete the curriculum.

Students can gain direct experience of defense companies' workplaces and job duties while enrolled, enhancing the practical skills needed for employment. Participating companies are expected to be able to identify and cultivate outstanding talent early, helping to address the shortage of skilled personnel in the defense sector.

President Yang O-bong said, "This workshop is an implementation meeting to connect the MOU signed in June to actual education and recruitment, rather than merely gathering opinions," and added, "We will faithfully reflect the specific personnel needs of the 15 participating companies and the job-specific competency requirements in the curriculum."

He continued, "We will provide students with a clear growth pathway from major coursework and industry–university scholarships to company projects, internships and field training, and employment, and we will reliably supply companies with outstanding talent who can be deployed immediately in the field. We will develop this recruitment-linked program into a representative Industry–University Collaboration model in which JBNU and defense companies grow together," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, JBNU plans to finalize company-specific customized programs based on the companies' feedback presented at the workshop and to continuously monitor program outcomes and students' internship, field training, and recruitment results going forward.
