Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) University Museum (Director Park Yong-jin) has organized a special exhibition to open the museum's collection of calligraphy and paintings to the public. The exhibition, the 2026 Special Exhibition of Calligraphy and Painting Collections "Reading the World Through Paintings," is on view in the museum's first-floor Special Exhibition Hall until February 26, 2026.

This exhibition was prepared to examine how people of the past understood the world through paintings and expressed their ideals and hopes in life, using the museum's calligraphy and painting holdings. It highlights calligraphy and paintings not merely as objects for aesthetic appreciation but as historical materials that convey contemporary thought, culture, and daily life.

The exhibition is organized into three sections: "Learning About the World," "Painting Ideals," and "Painting Hopes." The first section introduces how people learned knowledge and the order of the world through paintings, featuring works such as 「성학십도」, 「천문도」, and 「팔도지도」.

The second section presents literati paintings that embody personal ideals and spiritual worlds through nature motifs such as bamboo, plum, orchid, and chrysanthemum. The third section examines the lives and wishes of past people through folk paintings that prayed for happiness, abundance, longevity, and fortune, including 「호작도」, 「문자도」, and 「화조도」.

Park Yong-jin, Director of the JBNU University Museum, said, "Through this exhibition, I hope visitors will read the thoughts and life values of people of the past contained in a single painting and find an opportunity to engage more closely with our traditional calligraphy and paintings."

All exhibitions are free of charge. Viewing hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The museum is closed every Sunday and on public holidays.
