The student club ‘PAW STEP(포스텝)’ of the College of Nursing at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) (Dean Hye-young Kim) carried out acts of sharing that embraced both people and animals through a bazaar and volunteer work at an animal shelter.
On September 11, PAW STEP held its first bazaar with participation from College of Nursing students and members of the university community. The club members decided to donate all proceeds from the event to the Korea Cat Protection Association and the Korea Association for Rare and Intractable Diseases.
The event served as an opportunity to inform the campus about the club’s commitment to respecting life and coexistence by attending to the needs of both people and animals.
On September 12, eight students and two faculty members visited the Gunsan abandoned animal shelter ‘Return’ to volunteer. Participants cared for and interacted with the animals in care, reaffirming the value of life and the meaning of caregiving.
Founded in 2025, PAW STEP has been conducting running activities, on-campus cat care, plogging, and volunteer work to foster a culture of harmonious coexistence between humans and animals.
Hwang Min-ji, the club president, said, “We were worried since this was our first time organizing the event, but many people joined us in support. I hope our small contribution will provide warm support to people and animals in need.”
Jang Hyung-eun, the faculty advisor, said, “Experiencing respect and consideration for small and vulnerable lives is a valuable process through which nursing students internalize the value of respect for life,” adding, “I hope students who practice sharing will grow into nurses who cherish patients’ lives and dignity.”
