Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Department of Energy Storage and Conversion Engineering student Sangmyeong Lee (photo; advisor: Professor Seong-Yong Jeong, Division of Advanced Materials Engineering (Electronic Materials Engineering)) has been selected for the National Research Foundation of Korea's 2026 science and engineering academic research support program, the 'Master's Student Research Encouragement Grant Program'.

Under this program, Sangmyeong Lee will receive a scholarship of KRW 12,000,000 for one year to conduct the project titled "Development of Oxide Nanoreactor Architectures with Multivalent Redox Catalysts for 2-CEES Detection."

This research aims to design semiconductor gas sensors for defense applications that deliver excellent sensitivity, selectivity, and long-term stability to 2-CEES, a sulfur-based chemical agent simulant, by combining multivalent redox catalyst doping with microreactor structural control techniques.

Sangmyeong Lee has previously received an outstanding paper award at a domestic academic conference for research on developing gas-responsive materials with varied selectivities. Selection for this program is expected to further accelerate the student's research activities.

Sangmyeong Lee said, "I sincerely thank Professor Seong-Yong Jeong for his guidance in helping me be selected for this program."

Professor Seong-Yong Jeong of the Division of Advanced Materials Engineering, the student's advisor, stated, "I will actively support Sangmyeong Lee so that he can grow into a key R&D talent in materials design and semiconductor sensor applications."
