Seven students from the Department of Quantum System Engineering, including Hyuk Kim, recently participated in the '4th 2026 Radiation Summer School' held at Sol Beach, Samcheok, Gangwon Province, and won the Best Presentation Award and the Excellent Presentation Award.

The summer school, held as part of the "Strengthening Pre-Practical Nuclear Safety Training" project supported by the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission and the Korea Nuclear Safety Foundation, brought together about 170 university students nationwide who study in the nuclear and radiation fields. The program was designed to allow participants to systematically learn about the radiation safety regulatory system and to develop field-oriented problem-solving skills and practical competence through a variety of programs.

Participants formed 17 teams regardless of their home institutions to discuss and present on major issues in the fields of radiation and nuclear safety through team-based activities. Through multifaceted exchanges of opinions, they deepened their understanding of subject knowledge and strengthened their ability to collaborate with students from other universities.

As a result of the team presentation evaluations, the team including Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Department of Quantum System Engineering student Hyuk Kim demonstrated outstanding collaboration and a highly polished presentation, winning the Best Presentation Award. In addition, the team that included student Donghun Lee also achieved excellent results and was honored with the Excellent Presentation Award.

Hyuk Kim, who received the Best Presentation Award, said, "It was meaningful to be able to attend high-quality lectures, and it was a very good experience to freely and deeply exchange opinions with students from other universities and explore topics of interest. I believe that because we discussed and communicated freely together, we were able to receive such a great award."

The Department of Quantum System Engineering stated that participation in this Radiation Summer School provided students with an opportunity to grasp the latest trends in the radiation and nuclear fields and to expand their nationwide academic networks. The department plans to continue supporting students' participation in various academic and exchange programs so they can further enhance their practical professional skills and collaborative abilities.
