Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Center for Gifted Education in Science announced that on September 5, 2026 (Saturday) it held the 2026 Jeonbuk Science Young Talents Nurturing Program Research Presentation Contest in a lecture room of the Science Building, College of Education, JBNU. The contest involved 50 elementary school students from Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province who were selected for the Jeonbuk Science Young Talents Nurturing Program. The Jeonbuk Science Young Talents Nurturing Program selects participants through the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Lifelong Education Scholarship Promotion Foundation and is entrusted to the JBNU Center for Gifted Education in Science. From May to September of this year, the program provided systematic instruction in four fields—mathematics, biology, geology, and IT convergence—through weekend classes, intensive summer sessions, field surveys, and site visits to help students interested in mathematics and science pursue their aspirations as future scientists. The event provided an opportunity to share the research outcomes developed over approximately five months. 

Under the guidance of distinguished faculty from the College of Education and the College of Natural Science, presentations covered the following topics: in mathematics, research on the periodicity of symbolic matrix sequences with entries 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4; in biology, river ecosystems and conservation of the natural environment; in geology, “When and how were the mountain ranges of the Korean Peninsula formed?”; and in IT convergence, self-directed Python drone swarm flight learning for elementary students using age-appropriate scaffolding tools. In collaboration with the SW-Centered University Project Group, the program produced outstanding outcomes.
 

Meanwhile, the Center for Gifted Education in Science was established in 1998 within the Science Education Research Institute of the College of Education at JBNU as the “Jeonbuk National University Science Gifted Education Center” and was elevated to an affiliated institution, the “Center for Gifted Education in Science,” in 2002. It has been operating for 29 years. To date, a total of 5,589 students have completed the program, establishing the center as a leading institution for science gifted education in the Jeonbuk region.
