Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has offered special scholarships covering full tuition to Venezuelan international students affected by a recent earthquake, ensuring their studies are not interrupted.

On the 8th, JBNU announced that it presented special scholarship certificates to Venezuelan students on campus and awarded special scholarships to three students. The scholarships amount to about 2.7 million won per student and were arranged to cover the full tuition for the respective semester.

This support is particularly meaningful as it originated from the thoughtful attention and proposal of JBNU's Emeritus Professors' Association. Through its ongoing 'Emeritus Professors–International Student Mentoring Program,' the association has maintained steady exchanges with the Venezuelan students and shared in their difficulties in daily life and studies.

In particular, after the earthquake, the Emeritus Professors' Association, having assessed the students' anxiety and burdens, proposed that the university provide special assistance so they could continue their studies stably in a foreign country. JBNU agreed with this intention and decided to award special scholarships to ensure the students' education would not be disrupted by the crisis.

The students who received the scholarships expressed deep gratitude for the concern and support shown by the JBNU community. They stated that, despite the difficult circumstances, they will devote themselves further to their studies and grow into leaders who will facilitate exchange and cooperation between Korea and Venezuela.

President Yang Oh-bong said, 'I hope this special scholarship will provide some support to students suffering from the earthquake and help them continue their studies stably,' adding, 'JBNU will continue to provide careful support so that international students can pursue their dreams and continue their university life even in unfamiliar environments.'
