Yang Oh-bong, President of Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), received the 'Alumni Who Brought Honor to Jeonju High School' Award presented by the Jeonju High and Bukjung Alumni Association. The award ceremony was held on September 5 at 2:00 PM during the Jeonju High School 107th Anniversary General Alumni Association Meeting.

This award is presented to alumni who have achieved outstanding results across various fields of society and have enhanced their alma mater's honor and reputation.

President Yang served as a professor at JBNU for 30 years, leading the development of regional higher education across teaching, research, and university administration. Since his inauguration as the 19th President of Jeonbuk National University in 2023, he has elevated the university's educational and research competitiveness and external standing, and has been recognized for playing a central role in advancing JBNU toward becoming one of the nation's top-tier national flagship universities.

In particular, in 2025 he was elected president of the Korean Council for University Education, representing the voice of universities. He also serves as a member of the National Education Commission under the President, contributing to national education policy formulation and the advancement of higher education.

During his tenure, JBNU has developed world-class competitiveness in numerous academic fields and grown into a university that leads national advanced-technology development. Based on selection for the Glocal University 30 project, JBNU has promoted the establishment of the JUIC Triangle industrial ecosystem, attracted research infrastructure for the semiconductor and defense industries, and advanced efforts to cultivate AI talent for defense, taking the lead in strengthening the regional industrial base.

Through the establishment of the Namwon Glocal Campus, he has concretized a win-win model in which the region and the university grow together, and has proposed new solutions to regional depopulation and balanced national development.

In his acceptance remarks, President Yang said, 'I consider this award less as a personal honor than as an encouragement for the achievements realized together by JBNU members, the people of North Jeolla Province, and alumni of my alma mater.' He added, 'I will further dedicate myself to educational innovation, the cultivation of advanced industries, and regional co-prosperity so that JBNU can stand tall as a university that competes globally while shouldering the region's future.'
