A research team from the Research Institute for Basic Material and Energy Sciences under the JBNU G-Lamp Project Group (Project Group Director Jeong-Hwan Lee) recently participated in the 29th International Conference on Raman Spectroscopy (ICORS 2026·29th International Conference on Raman Spectroscopy) held in Istanbul, Türkiye, where they presented research outcomes and expanded international academic exchange.
The International Conference on Raman Spectroscopy (ICORS) is an international forum where researchers and industry experts in Raman spectroscopy share the latest research outcomes and technological trends. This year’s conference covered a wide range of topics, from fundamental Raman spectroscopy theory to advanced materials, nanoscience, energy, bio/medical applications, and analytical techniques.
At JBNU, a total of eight participants from three research teams of the Research Institute for Basic Material and Energy Sciences attended, including professors, early-career researchers, and emerging scholars.
The research team led by Professor Hee-Seok Noh (Department of Physics) presented Professor Noh’s study on “The Effects of Strain on Two-Dimensional Semiconductor Materials,” Eun-Seong Lee, a master’s student, presented “Raman Scattering Study for Characterizing the Properties of Janus Single-Atom-Layer Semiconductors,” and Dae-Kwon Lee, a doctoral student, presented “Interlayer Interactions in Two-Dimensional Moiré Structures.”
The team of Professor Hoon Jang (Department of Biological Sciences) introduced research by Hyun-Hee Song, a doctoral student, on the intracellular distribution, perinuclear accumulation, biochemical redistribution, and cellular stress responses of PEGylated carbon quantum dots (PEG-QDs), using Raman and photoluminescence mapping.
The team of Professor Ji-Min Yang (Department of Molecular Biology) reported Raman analysis results by Dr. Ye-Rin Yang on stromal changes in the tumor microenvironment of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and cancer-associated fibroblast (CAF)-related stromal phenotypes. Master’s student Gahi Hong shared research analyzing biological changes related to hepatic stellate cell activation using Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM).
This participation was part of JBNU G-Lamp Project Group and the Research Institute for Basic Material and Energy Sciences’ efforts to strengthen global research capacity and expand academic networks. The Project Group will continue to support researchers’ participation in international conferences and presentation of research outcomes to broaden the global researcher network and to translate these activities into tangible follow-up achievements such as international collaborative publications and joint research between teams.
Project Group Director Jeong-Hwan Lee stated, “This conference provided a meaningful opportunity to present our teams’ excellent research outcomes to the international academic community and to interact with leading researchers worldwide. We will continue to actively support participating researchers and emerging scholars so they can build global research networks and expand international collaborative research.”
Meanwhile, the JBNU G-Lamp Project Group has established an institute-centered support system in the basic sciences and operates various research and academic exchange programs to promote multidisciplinary convergent research and international collaborative research.
