Yang O-bong, President of Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), engaged in a range of cooperative activities with Vietnamese educational institutions and government officials to expand the university's international network. Through this visit to Vietnam, JBNU plans to broaden educational cooperation in the field of Physical AI and the foundation for attracting high-achieving international students, and to open JBNU International Centers at local universities in succession, thereby opening a new horizon for global educational cooperation.

President Yang visited Hanoi, Vietnam, from August 23 to 26 on a four-day, two-night trip. On the 24th, he met with a Vice Minister of the Vietnamese Ministry of Education to discuss expanding cooperation in Physical AI, measures to revitalize higher education exchanges, and cooperation models between the two countries' educational institutions for cultivating talent for future industries.

He then visited Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Hanoi National University of Foreign Languages; the gifted high school affiliated with Vietnam National University; and the gifted high school affiliated with Hanoi National University of Education, promoting agreements for educational and research exchanges and pathways for outstanding students to enroll at JBNU. By extending cooperation beyond university-to-university partnerships to include local gifted education institutions, the initiative is expected to further strengthen JBNU's ability to attract excellent international students and its system for cultivating global talent.

On the 25th, JBNU opened the "EAUT-JBNU International Center" at the East Asia University of Technology (EAUT) and signed a memorandum of understanding. The International Center will serve as a local hub connecting JBNU and the local university for curriculum exchanges, international student recruitment and management, Korean language and admissions programs, joint research, and industry–university collaboration.

The same day, a ceremony was held at Hanoi College to open the "HNC-JBNU International Center" and sign an MOU. JBNU plans to use the two International Centers to promote its educational strengths and future industry–specialized fields to outstanding local students in Vietnam and to establish a tailored support system for studying abroad and admissions.

This visit to Vietnam is expected to add momentum to JBNU's initiative to attract 5,000 international students and to its strategy for improving its internationalization index.

In particular, by linking JBNU's strengths—such as Physical AI, advanced industries, and Korean language and cultural education—to local educational demand, it is expected to build an international cooperation model in which education, research, and talent development form a virtuous cycle rather than mere exchanges.

President Yang O-bong said, "The greatest achievement of this visit was laying the groundwork for cooperation that connects JBNU with Vietnam's excellent educational institutions and future talent," adding, "We will develop the International Centers into practical gateways for local students to experience JBNU and the future of education in the Republic of Korea, and further enhance the stature of a glocal university that grows together with the world."
