Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Office of Educational Innovation (Vice-President Sim Jae-woo) successfully held the "2026 Summer JBNU AIX-PBL Workshop and Results Sharing Session" on the 25th to promote the on-campus expansion and enhancement of educational quality of JBNU's distinctive educational innovation model, JBNU AIX-PBL, which addresses industry and community issues through artificial intelligence (AI).
Under the theme "Bring the Workplace into the Classroom, Transcend the Boundaries of Education," the event brought together instructors, learners, and learning facilitators (TAs) to share exemplary course implementations and to strengthen practical skills tailored to each audience for effectively designing and running industry-linked, project-based learning.
The program was divided into two parts: Part 1, foundational training and a results-sharing session of exemplary cases; and Part 2, capacity-building workshops tailored to participants (instructors, learners, and learning facilitators (TAs)).
In Part 1, Ju Jae-woo, Deputy Vice-President of the Office of Educational Innovation, delivered foundational training under the title "JBNU AIX-PBL 101: Understanding and Practicing Project-Based Learning Using AI," and shared the background and educational direction of the JBNU AIX-PBL model.
Deputy Vice-President Ju emphasized that "to cultivate practice-oriented talent demanded by industry, it is essential to move beyond theory-centered instruction toward educational transformation that combines on-site problem solving with AI." He also announced plans to develop six customized instructional models reflecting the characteristics of each discipline, along with faculty support measures grounded in policy research.
At the subsequent results-sharing session, presentations were given in turn on courses that achieved outstanding outcomes during the 2026 summer term.
Professor Su-hyun Kim of the Division of Agricultural Economics and Food Distribution presented the operation case of the course "Food Industry Organization," which collaborated with Hanwoomul Co., Ltd., a specialized SME in HMR frozen foods. Through a tour of the Gimje headquarters factory, a CEO guest lecture, and mentoring by practitioners, students devised packaging designs targeting the North American market and collaborative marketing strategies aimed at Gen Z gamers.
Professor Mi-sun Jang of the Department of Housing Environmental Design introduced a community-collaboration demonstration PBL case carried out with the Jeonju Housing Welfare Center and a local construction company through the course "Housing for Vulnerable Groups." Based on aging simulation experiences, on-site measurements, and user interviews, students designed customized 3D models for home retrofits and material specifications that consider fall prevention and mobility safety, securing feasibility for future linkage to actual renovation work on aging houses.
In Part 2, the AIX-PBL capacity-building workshop invited faculty from the Department of Sports Science at Hanyang University ERICA, a domestic leader in IC-PBL, to deliver special lectures for instructors, learners, and learning facilitators (TAs). For instructors, Professor Jae-yun Kwon of Hanyang University ERICA's Department of Sports Science gave a talk titled "IC-PBL Class Cases and Operational Strategies at Hanyang University ERICA." Professor Kwon introduced industry–university collaboration projects linked to the sports field and a professional football club (FC Anyang) and shared concrete design know-how for QBL (Question-Based Learning), a student-led class format.
Simultaneously, for learners and learning facilitators (TAs), Professor Hye-su Cho of Hanyang University ERICA's Department of Sports Science delivered a lecture titled "Practical Industry-Linked AIX-PBL Projects Performed with Generative AI: What Comes First and What Comes Later?" Professor Cho provided step-by-step strategies for appropriately deploying generative AI tools in real problem-solving procedures, along with collaboration techniques and close TA support methods for successful team project execution.
Sim Jae-woo, Vice-President of the Office of Educational Innovation, said, "AIX-PBL is a future-oriented educational ecosystem that expands university knowledge and students' creative ideas into industry and community sites," and added, "We will continue to do our best to enable students to grow into interdisciplinary talents equipped with both practical field skills and AI capabilities through building discipline-specific customized instructional models and proactive financial and administrative support."
