Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) dispatched students from its Internationalization Competency Team to Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan during the summer break to carry out educational and cultural exchange activities successfully. Through this program, JBNU further expanded its foundation for international cooperation with educational institutions and related organizations in Central Asia, and positive effects on recruiting international students are expected.

The Internationalization Competency Team conducted a variety of programs for local students at Arabaev State University in Kyrgyzstan, the Bishkek Sejong Institute, and School 107 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Twenty-two JBNU students were sent to each country, 44 students in total, and they interacted with about 80 local students per country, totaling approximately 160 students.

The team operated Korean language education programs tailored to the age and language proficiency of local participants. They also offered diverse educational and cultural activities based on K‑culture, including Taekwondo, traditional games, K‑POP, and Korean culture experiences, which received enthusiastic responses.

Students from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds broadened their understanding of Korea and Central Asia through participation in the programs. They formed friendships and enhanced their communication skills as global citizens.

Alongside educational and cultural exchanges, the team visited the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Kyrgyzstan, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Uzbekistan, the Tashkent Korean Education Center, and the Tashkent No.1 Sejong Institute. There, they introduced JBNU's educational environment, support systems for international students, scholarship programs, and international exchange initiatives to showcase the university's educational capabilities and global competitiveness.

On the 21st, JBNU held the "2026 Summer Internationalization Competency Team Results Presentation" at the JBNU Student Town and shared case studies and outcomes from the activities in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

The event was attended by Yun Myung-suk, Executive Vice-President of Foreign Affairs and Professional Affairs, participating students and related officials, who shared country-specific activities and local exchange experiences and discussed ways to expand future international exchanges.

JBNU plans to expand its cooperation network with overseas educational institutions and related organizations through the Internationalization Competency Team each year, and to continue enhancing students' international communication skills and global citizenship awareness.
