JBNU announced that one student from the Department of Advanced Defense Technology and Industry has been selected as a 'STEM for ALL' scholarship recipient operated by global aerospace and defense company Thales Korea (Thales Korea). The selected student is Seo Yujeong, who is enrolled in the Department of Advanced Defense Technology and Industry.

This scholarship selection is the first result of the global defense industry and advanced technology talent development memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed last April between JBNU and the Thales Group. Through the MOU, the two institutions agreed to establish a cooperation framework linking education and industry, including the operation of scholarship programs, mentoring, and internships. In May, Francois PIOLET (Francois PIOLET), CEO of Thales Korea, visited JBNU to give a special lecture to students and to discuss ways to expand industry–university cooperation, among other ongoing collaborative efforts.

'STEM for ALL' is a global corporate social responsibility program run by the Thales Group. It selects students with growth potential and capabilities in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and provides scholarships and mentoring from company experts.

The selected scholar will receive a scholarship and an opportunity to participate in Thales' employee mentoring program for one year. Through this, the student is expected to gain experience interacting with experts from the global defense industry and to enhance understanding of the industry and career competencies.

This scholarship selection is particularly significant as it demonstrates that cooperation between JBNU and Thales Korea has produced tangible results in talent development. Going forward, the two institutions plan to continue fostering global talent to lead the future defense and space industries through various Industry-University Cooperation programs, including scholarship programs, mentoring, and internships.

President Yang O-bong said, 'Cooperation with Thales is an important turning point for JBNU's strategy to specialize in advanced defense industry and to expand global Industry-University Cooperation,' and added, 'We will actively support students so they can acquire practical global competencies through direct exchanges with world-class companies.'

Meanwhile, JBNU established and operates the nation's first undergraduate program in the Department of Advanced Defense Technology and Industry, and is expanding scholarship programs, mentoring, internships, and hiring-linked MOU agreements with global defense companies and major domestic defense companies to accelerate the training of professionals who will lead the future defense industry.
