Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) received accreditation for all four programs—Industrial Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Division of Convergence Technology Engineering (Major of IT Applied System Engineering)—in the 2026 accreditation assessment conducted by the Korea Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (KABEE). In particular, all programs received the highest rating, NGR (Next General Review).

The accreditation assessment comprehensively verifies whether each program has established and continuously operates an engineering education system meeting international standards. The current accreditation is valid through 2033.

JBNU submitted a self-evaluation report that comprehensively summarized the past six years of curriculum operation, educational outcomes, and student support systems for this assessment.

The assessment proceeded through a document review in March and a site visit in April, followed by a major-by-major coordination process that carried out an in-depth verification of overall program performance and education quality.

The engineering accreditation system operates based on the international standards for the competencies and attributes expected of engineering graduates established by the Washington Accord, which has 25 member countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Singapore. Accredited programs are recognized as having international-level education systems and having met operational performance requirements.

Consequently, graduates of accredited engineering programs can have their foundational knowledge and competencies in mathematics, science, and computer use, as well as their major-specific and engineering design abilities, internationally recognized. It is also reported that major domestic companies give preferential consideration to graduates of accredited programs during recruitment processes.

Lee Il-jae, Director of the Engineering Education Innovation Center at JBNU, said, "This accreditation result demonstrates that JBNU's engineering education has an international-level system and competitiveness," and added, "We will continue to strengthen our global competitiveness in engineering education through systematic development and support of high-quality curricula."
