Student reporters and staff affiliated with the JBNU University Press & Broadcasting Service conducted a mentoring program on producing newspapers and videos focused on local issues with about 40 children from community children's centers in Gimje City, receiving an enthusiastic response. 

The program, held from August 3 over a three-night, four-day schedule, involved children from the Geumgu Community Children's Center and Beonyeong Community Children's Center in Gimje City. They were paired one-on-one with some 40 university student mentors and participated in the entire reporting process, from planning and writing to filming and editing.

They also interviewed Lee Jeong-ja, Chairperson of the Gimje City Council, and Lee Hyeon-seo, Vice Mayor of Gimje City, and covered various aspects of Gimje by visiting a local young farmer's farm, an independent bookstore, the Sanmeoru vineyard, the Arirang Literature Village, and Geumsansa Temple. 

Lee Chae-won, a second-year student in the Department of English Language & Literature who participated as a mentor, said, "I felt great reward seeing the children participate so earnestly with bright, eager eyes," and added, "Meeting passionate young people active in Gimje made me resolve to grow into someone who can have a positive impact on the community."

Kim Jae-woo, Faculty Adviser of the University Press & Broadcasting Service, said, "We were very concerned due to the prolonged heat wave, but we are especially grateful and touched that the child reporters and university student mentors showed consideration for each other and completed all schedules safely. We will continue to strive to operate diverse programs that can grow together with the local community."

Based on this activity, the JBNU University Press & Broadcasting Service will produce a children's newspaper and a promotional video for Gimje City in August. The newspaper and video are scheduled to be distributed at the end of the month via the JBNU University Press & Broadcasting Service website and YouTube channel, and through public institutions in Gimje City and the Jeonju area.

Meanwhile, the JBNU University Press & Broadcasting Service has been operating the "Joint Content Production Program to Address Local Issues in Partnership with Local Children's Centers" since 2023 as part of the National University Development Project. Last year, it also produced five pieces of content with children from local children's centers, and produced 30 videos of local civic group activities over three years from 2020.
