Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) alumni Lee Jung-gwan and Lee Su-jeong donated 10 million KRW to the development fund to support junior students of the Division of Chemical Engineering.

The Jeonbuk National University Development Foundation presented a plaque of appreciation to alumni Lee Jung-gwan and Lee Su-jeong on August 5 in the President's Office at University Headquarters, with President Yang O-bong and other senior university officials in attendance, in gratitude for the donation.

Lee Jung-gwan, Class of 2006, and Lee Su-jeong, Class of 2005, said that after beginning their working lives and raising families they felt grateful that their family had remained safe and well. As parents of three children, they added, they wished to contribute to making the region a better place to live and therefore decided to donate to JBNU, which cultivates and produces local talent.

The alumni continued, "We believe that the backbone of national and regional development is the STEM fields. We hope this donation will be put to valuable use in nurturing talent for national and regional development."

They also noted, "Compared with when we were students 20 years ago, JBNU appears to have made significant progress," expressing affection for their alma mater and adding, "We hope JBNU will continue advancing so that our children will want to enroll there in the future."

President Yang O-bong said, "We sincerely thank Lee Jung-gwan and Lee Su-jeong for their meaningful act of sharing for the future of the region and their alma mater. In honoring their generous intention, we will do our utmost to create educational and research environments that enable our university's talent to grow into key figures who will lead regional and national development."
