    Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Professor Yong-Gon Cho Elected Next President of the Korean Society of Transfusion Medicine

    Professor Yong-Gon Cho of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, JBNU School of Medicine, was elected next president of the Korean Society of Transfusion Medicine at the Society's 2026 Spring Scientific Meeting and Council. His term begins next January and will last one year.

     

    The Korean Society of Transfusion Medicine is a scholarly organization founded in 1982 to advance academic research in transfusion medicine and blood management and to establish a safe transfusion culture. It promotes research and education related to transfusion, develops clinical guidelines, and engages in various activities including proposing blood management policies and facilitating domestic and international academic exchanges.

     

    As the incoming president, Professor Cho plans to focus on establishing a safe transfusion system, revitalizing research in blood management, strengthening member education, and expanding domestic and international academic exchange, thereby contributing to the advancement of transfusion medicine in Korea. He is expected to play a role in developing a more systematic and stable transfusion system amid rapidly changing medical environments and blood supply conditions.

     

    Professor Cho graduated from the JBNU School of Medicine and has served as a professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Jeonbuk National University Hospital, holding positions including Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine in the School of Medicine, Vice-President of the Office of Public Relations at JBNU, and Director of the Institute for Biomedical Research at Jeonbuk National University Hospital.

     

    He currently serves as a professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Jeonbuk National University Hospital and as Director of the Transfusion Management Office. He has provided clinical care and conducted research in transfusion medicine and blood banking, contributing to improvements in transfusion safety and blood management through participation in related societies and committees.

     

    Professor Yong-Gon Cho said, “I feel a great sense of responsibility in taking on the important role as the next president of the Korean Society of Transfusion Medicine,” and added, “I will work with members to create a safe transfusion environment and strengthen our academic, research, and educational capabilities.” He continued, “We will proactively respond to rapidly changing medical environments and blood supply conditions, and do our utmost to establish a transfusion system that the public can trust.”
