Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) received the highest level of accreditation in the 4th cycle of the University Institutional Evaluation and Accreditation conducted by the Korean University Accreditation Institute under the Korean Council for University Education, and will retain its accredited status for five years, through February 2032.
The University Institutional Evaluation and Accreditation is a representative higher education quality assurance system that comprehensively assesses all aspects of university operations, including educational conditions, curriculum management, student support, university governance, and fulfillment of social responsibility. Institutions that obtain accreditation are externally recognized for the quality of their education and excellence in university operations.
JBNU met the accreditation standards in all evaluation areas — university governance and social responsibility; curriculum and teaching–learning; faculty and staff; and student support and facilities — and was officially recognized for its excellent educational quality and institutional competitiveness.
In its comprehensive opinion, the evaluation panel assessed that JBNU has successfully promoted initiatives such as the Glocal University 30 project, the National University Development Program, and the RISE project, and is a national flagship university with an excellent educational environment and strong innovation capabilities. The panel especially commended the university for consistently producing outcomes across education, research, and social responsibility based on institution-wide development plans and a performance management system.
JBNU has established a data-driven performance management system (IR) that integrates and analyzes the university's key performance data, and systematically manages the entire process from development planning through implementation monitoring to feedback of results. Through this, the university has operated major policies and projects with a performance-oriented approach and built a foundation for sustainable development.
In education, strengths included operating a competency-based curriculum, expanding double majors and interdisciplinary education, and operating the Center of AI Education to establish a talent development system that meets the needs of future society. The panel also evaluated that JBNU has raised educational quality by conducting ongoing educational innovation and teaching–learning support centered on the Center of Teaching and Learning and the Center of Remote Education Support.
JBNU also received high marks in student support. JBNU provides systematic academic, career, and psychological/emotional support through various scholarship programs, career and employment support programs, and the operation of specialized counseling centers. The establishment of advanced learning spaces such as AI SPACE and smart educational environments was presented as a key institutional strength for building future-oriented educational infrastructure.
Furthermore, JBNU was evaluated as faithfully fulfilling its public responsibilities as a national flagship university by sharing educational and research resources through collaboration with the local community and other universities, and contributing to regional innovation and the creation of social value.
President Yang O-bong said, “The achievement of accreditation in the 4th cycle of the University Institutional Evaluation and Accreditation is the result of all university members working together to innovate education and strengthen institutional competitiveness,” and added, “We will continue to advance our data-driven performance management system and AI-based educational innovation, and successfully carry out the Glocal University 30 and RISE projects to leap forward as a glocal research-focused university leading the region and the world.”
