    Dr. Ji-eun Wi of the JBNU G-Lamp Project Group Appointed as Researcher at the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences

    Dr. Ji-eun Wi of the Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) G-Lamp (LAMP) Project Group (supervisor: Professor Jong-min Yeom) was finally selected as a meteorological researcher at the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences, a research institute under the Korea Meteorological Administration, and was appointed effective July 1.

     

    Dr. Wi graduated in 2007 from the Division of Science Education (Earth Science Education) at JBNU and earned a Ph.D. in Science from the same graduate school in 2018. She then worked as a postdoctoral researcher for six years, publishing 15 scholarly papers and filing and registering one patent, steadily building her research capabilities in the meteorology and climate fields.

     

    In particular, while working as an LAMP postdoctoral researcher at JBNU's Institute of Basic Science for Materials and Energy, she focused on research into AI-based meteorological and climate prediction methods, conducting studies such as "Development of a Deep Learning-Based Intra-Seasonal Solar Energy Forecasting Model and Assessment of Climate–Environmental Impacts."

     

    She has published eight papers over the past five years. Among them, she served as the lead author of "Role of Madden-Julian Oscillation in predicting 2020 East Asia summer precipitation in subseasonal-to-seasonal models(IF 3.8, JCR 상위 18.66%)", earning recognition for her academic achievements in the field of climate prediction.

     

    Dr. Ji-eun Wi stated, "I will contribute to the advancement of national meteorological science and the cultivation of future talent based on the deep learning-based meteorological and climate prediction research capabilities I accumulated through the G-LAMP (LAMP) project."

     

    Meanwhile, Dr. Wi will conduct research at the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences on multidisciplinary application technologies for a Korean AI meteorological and climate foundation model, and will participate in projects to develop and advance next-generation meteorological and climate prediction models.
