Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), which is accelerating efforts to establish a settlement base for foreign residents centered on the Namwon Glocal Campus, will provide tailored Korean language education for foreign households in the Namwon area centered on a Korean Language Institute to be established on that campus.

To this end, JBNU signed a memorandum of understanding with the Namwon City Childcare Support Center on the 26th and agreed to cooperate on demand-driven Korean language education for foreign families, including migrant women. Jo Hwa-rim, Director of the Office of International Affairs; Kim Tae-yeon, Director of the Division of Language Education; Han Young-sook, Director of the Center; and other key officials attended the signing ceremony.

The agreement focuses on cooperation in Korean language education for foreign children and their guardians and play-centered early childhood education through the Korean Language Institute to be established on the Namwon Glocal Campus. It also focuses on a community-integrated Korean language education model that goes beyond simple language instruction by developing family-based tailored programs and establishing cooperative systems with related local organizations to link education to community settlement.

The Namwon Glocal Campus is a flagship project advanced as part of the Glocal University 30 Project, for which JBNU was selected in 2023. It is the country's first closed-university regeneration model, transforming the former Seonam University site into a global education hub.

JBNU has already begun operating three departments exclusively for foreign students and has been preparing various measures to encourage the settlement of foreigners in the region. Having already built a Korean language education system for settled foreign residents, multicultural families, and children who immigrated to Korea during childhood through cooperation with the Namwon City Family Center and others, this agreement is expected to play a significant role in providing practical daily-life support for migrant women and children of foreign families.

Jo Hwa-rim, Director of the Office of International Affairs, emphasized, "We will strengthen connections with the local community so that foreign families are not excluded from childcare and education," adding, "Supporting settlement at the family level is a key foundation for foreign talent to take root in the region."
