    Professor Chae Jong-chan Receives Presidential Citation for Contributions to National Food Safety Industry Development

    Professor Chae Jong-chan (College of Environmental & Bioresource Sciences, Division of Biotechnology) received a Presidential Citation in recognition of his contributions to national industrial development through food safety management on the occasion of the 25th Food Safety Day.

     

    Professor Chae has contributed to the safety management and development of the domestic food and microbiology sectors by participating in genetically modified (GM) food safety management, the establishment of microbiological standards and specifications in the food sector, the listing of microorganisms such as lactic acid bacteria as food ingredients, and providing advice on new food ingredients that apply the latest technologies.

     

    He has also conducted research on antibiotic-resistant bacteria, including their behavior, to assess the domestic state of antibiotic resistance. He has supported the development of antibiotic resistance safety management and mid- to long-term strategies based on the One Health approach. His work is evaluated to have made a significant contribution to strengthening national safety management of resistant strains in line with international response strategies.

     

    Professor Chae said, "I am honored to receive such a generous award," and added, "I thank those who worked with me on policy-related committees and in collaborative research, and I would especially like to thank the students in my laboratory."
