The JBNU RISE Project Group successfully concluded the 2026 First Semester Capstone Design Competition, confirming achievements in cultivating practice-oriented talent based on regional strategic industries.
The competition was held on the 17th in the Jinsudang Lobby and Glocal Hall. It was hosted by the JBNU RISE Project Group and jointly organized by the Center for Innovation in Joint Education and the Intellectual Property Professional Training Project Group.
A total of 96 teams and 493 students participated, publicly exhibiting the design and development results they completed over one semester. The judging involved 15 experts from industry, academia, and research institutes, and focused on competencies required in actual industrial settings such as technical merit, creativity, and commercial viability. The exhibition and evaluation were conducted entirely on-site, providing an opportunity to comprehensively assess students' problem-solving abilities and their linkage with strategic industries.
As a result of the evaluation, 16 teams were selected as outstanding. The grand prize team received high marks for presenting an AI motion study technology based on MediaPipe. The technology stood out for its ability to analyze workers' hand and arm coordinate data as a time series to automatically recognize basic motions (Therblig) and diagnose process inefficiencies in real time, enabling the automation of work standards and analysis of production efficiency.
The judging panel described the work as 'a piece that presents the possibility of innovation in the way work is analyzed in industrial settings.'
In Track 1, which focused on regional strategic industries such as Digital ICT, mobility futurization, advanced material convergence, and clean energy, a total of 12 teams were awarded gold, silver, and bronze prizes. In Track 2 (Intellectual Property), three teams were selected after evaluating patentability and creativity based on prior art searches, indicating a significant improvement in students' capabilities to secure technology rights.
The JBNU RISE Project Group plans to expand follow-up support focused on the excellent technologies identified in this competition, including patent applications, technology transfer, and prototype advancement. The group will also produce a collection of all entries and share it with internal and external institutions and local industries to disseminate student outcomes and strengthen industry–university–research collaboration.

We will further strengthen systematic support with co-hosting institutions so that outstanding student ideas can be connected to patents and commercialization.'
Meanwhile, JBNU plans to expand Capstone Design education with a focus on partnerships with local industry and to advance cooperation networks among industry, academia, research institutes, and public institutions, continuously strengthening students' practical experience and their competitiveness in employment and entrepreneurship.
