JBNU received strong response after running an ophthalmology screening program in cooperation with local medical institutions to support international students' stable adjustment to university life.

JBNU announced that it has been implementing the "Ophthalmology Medical Support Program" for international students since May.

The program aimed to provide international students with basic ophthalmologic screening to detect vision and ocular health issues early and to help improve academic concentration and daily life adaptation.

Screenings were conducted at Onnuri Eye Hospital in Wansan-gu, Jeonju (certified as an ophthalmology specialty hospital in 2026), and about 20 international students enrolled in degree programs at JBNU participated. The screening items included vision tests, intraocular pressure measurement (NCT), refraction and corneal curvature examination (ARK), refraction test (MR), and fundus (retinal) examination, allowing an overall assessment of ocular health.

The screening results were communicated individually to participating students. If detailed examinations or additional treatment were required, support was provided to arrange follow-up care through separate consultations.

The program was carried out with the full support of Jeong Young-taek, director of Onnuri Eye Hospital and former president of the Jeonbuk National University Alumni Association.

Director Jeong said, "International students often experience difficulties accessing healthcare due to language and cultural differences. I hope this screening will contribute to students' improved health and stable university life."

JBNU's Jo Hwa-rim, Director of the Office of International Affairs, said, "We will continue to expand medical and living support programs so that international students can focus on their studies in a healthy environment."

Meanwhile, JBNU plans to continue strengthening its support system for international students and to work toward creating a global campus environment through cooperation with local medical institutions and alumni networks.
