Jeonbuk National University Alumni Association (President Choi Byung-seon) hosted a celebration at the alma mater for alumni elected in the June 3 local elections.
At 6:00 p.m. on the 17th, the event held at JBNU's Jinsudang Gain Hall was attended by some 200 people, including President Yang O-bong, Choi Byung-seon, president of the Alumni Association, alumni association officers, and the elected alumni. They shared their joy over the election outcomes and pledged to contribute to regional development.
This local election saw many JBNU alumni elected, including Lee Won-taek as Governor of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, Cheon Ho-seong as Superintendent of Education for Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, Park Ji-won as a Member of the National Assembly, and Cho Ji-hoon as Mayor of Jeonju. With 86 city and county heads as well as numerous metropolitan and local assembly members among the elected, the results once again demonstrated the broad influence of JBNU alumni across the community.
At the event, Choi Byung-seon presented commemorative plaques and bouquets to the elected alumni. Governor-elect Lee Won-taek, speaking as a representative of the elected alumni, pledged to work for the development of the region and his alma mater.
The event also included the presentation and handover of a commemorative white paper published to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Jeonbuk National University Alumni Association.
In particular, the elected alumni and JBNU officials agreed to unite their efforts to have JBNU selected in this year’s initiative to designate three regional flagship national universities—institutions intended to drive regional growth and educate outstanding local talent—part of the so‑called "Create 10 Seoul National Universities" campaign.
Choi Byung-seon said, "Today, gathered with alumni elected in the local elections under the name of Jeonbuk National University, is a very meaningful occasion," adding, "I expect that by consolidating the capabilities of our alumni, we will demonstrate the resolve of JBNU people to lead regional and national development."
