Students of the JBNU Department of Hanok (Department Head Professor Lee Yang-su) have drawn attention by achieving a 100% pass rate on the 2026 Cultural Heritage Technician Qualification Examination administered by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea.

According to the Department of Hanok, of 20 enrolled students, six—including Ms. Lee Mi-suk—sat the Assistant Measured Drawing Designer category and all passed. The Cultural Heritage Repair Craftsman Qualification Examination is a national exam that certifies technicians in cultural heritage repair. It is a rigorous test administered once a year. A 100% pass rate is regarded as an exceptional outcome nationwide.

The exam was conducted from April 14 to April 23, 2026, and the successful candidates were mainly third-year students. They steadily continued hands-on practice and exercises from the winter break onward, building on the drawing and measurement skills acquired since their first year.

Systematic departmental support also contributed to the results. The Department of Hanok operated special lectures at the workshop every Saturday and continuously provided exam-related information to assist students in their preparation.

In particular, most of the successful candidates entered through the adult learner admission track and achieved these results while balancing daytime employment with nighttime study, exemplifying a "work by day, study by night" learning environment.

Ms. Lee Mi-suk, one of the successful candidates, said, "Balancing family and work while studying at school at night was very rewarding. I am very pleased to have achieved good results in the exam I took to verify my learning outcomes. I will continue to work steadily to grow as a cultural heritage technician."

Department Head Lee Yang-su said, "This achievement is the result of a 24-hour open educational environment centered on the Gochang Campus, a Hanok-specialized campus, combined with active guidance from the faculty. Based on our pride as the nation's leading Hanok education institution, we will redouble our efforts to train skilled professionals."

Meanwhile, the JBNU Department of Hanok is the country's only department established in 2021 to inherit and develop traditional Hanok architecture. It carries out specialized education and research centered on the Gochang Campus. In addition, through the Hanok Construction Project Group, it is promoting Hanok education and research as well as Hanok export projects overseas to countries including Vietnam, the Philippines, Russia, and the United States.
