To dramatically advance future cutting-edge defense technologies and enhance national security competitiveness, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Defense Technology Quality Institute (Director Shin Sang-beom) and the Defense Technology Promotion Research Institute (Director Son Jae-heung). 

This agreement was initiated to link the capabilities and resources of defense technology institutions and a national flagship university in order to respond to rapidly changing security environments and the demand for defense innovation based on advanced science and technology, and to strengthen cooperative systems for defense science and technology research and development (R&D) and talent development.

Under the three-party agreement signed on June 16, the three institutions will actively pursue △Promoting defense science and technology R&D and cultivating specialized personnel △Establishing an industry–university cooperation platform to foster a national flagship university and achieve national balanced development goals △Joint use of academic information and educational and research facilities △Mutual personnel exchanges among affiliated faculty and staff.

In particular, this agreement is expected to serve as an opportunity to further strengthen the talent development and industry–academia–research cooperation foundation in the advanced defense industry sector that Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) is pursuing. JBNU plans to expand educational and research cooperation in various fields—including defense science and technology, the defense industry, testing and evaluation, quality management, and technology planning—through collaboration with the Defense Technology Quality Institute and the Defense Technology Promotion Research Institute.

JBNU will use this agreement as an occasion to expand its education and research base in the advanced defense industry, and intends to contribute to regional and national defense industry development through practical cooperation with defense science and technology institutions. As a national flagship university, it also plans to build an industry–university cooperation platform that leads national balanced development and the formation of a regional defense industry ecosystem.

Yang O-bong, President of Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), said, "This agreement is an important starting point for defense science and technology institutions and a national flagship university to jointly cultivate the talent that will lead future defense innovation and to advance a region-based defense industry ecosystem," adding, "JBNU will closely cooperate with the Defense Technology Quality Institute and the Defense Technology Promotion Research Institute to grow into a hub for education, research, and industry–academia collaboration in the advanced defense industry sector."

Shin Sang-beom, Director of the Defense Technology Quality Institute, said, "The cultivation of excellent specialized personnel and the establishment of industry–university–research cooperation systems are paramount to the advancement of defense science and technology. Through this agreement, we will work to link the expertise of defense quality and defense industry fields with university education and research, and to produce tangible cooperative outcomes."

Son Jae-hong, Director of the Defense Technology Promotion Research Institute, stated, "In a situation where defense innovation centered on advanced technologies is accelerating, linking defense technology planning with the cultivation of specialized personnel is a very important task," adding, "Through cooperation with Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) and the Defense Technology Quality Institute, we will contribute to the future development of defense technologies and to strengthening the competitiveness of the defense industry."

The three institutions will further specify detailed cooperation tasks through separate consultations and establish a sustained cooperation framework.
