The Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Healthy Family Support Project Group (Director Jeong Yu-jin), which operates the Jeonbuk Special Self‑Governing Province Regional Childcare Support Center (Center Director Kim Byung‑su), has partnered with Yesu Hospital, the designated regional medical institution for the Jeonju area, to strengthen the safety-management capabilities of childcare providers in medically underserved areas.

The Center announced that on June 10 and 12 it provided training on preventing accidents involving infants and young children and responding to emergency situations for 33 childcare providers working in Jinan County and Muju County. The training was designed to prevent safety incidents that may occur in care settings and to improve rapid and appropriate initial response capabilities in emergency situations.

Prior to the training, the Center conducted a preliminary survey on safety management and emergency response at the childcare centers in Jinan and Muju counties and developed a practice‑oriented, customized curriculum reflecting on‑site needs. The program combined theory on preventing safety incidents involving infants and young children with practical first‑aid exercises such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the Heimlich maneuver, enabling participants to acquire response skills that can be immediately applied in the field.

The training also gained significance from being implemented in cooperation with Yesu Hospital, the designated regional medical institution for the Jeonju area. It is seen as an opportunity not only to enhance the professionalism of care workers in medically underserved areas but also to strengthen linkages among public health, medical care, and caregiving services.

The Center plans to continue expanding professional training support—focusing on areas with limited access to medical services such as Muju and Jinan counties—to continuously strengthen childcare providers' on‑site response capabilities and to work toward building a local care safety net that reassures infants, young children, and their caregivers.

Kim Byung‑su, Center Director of the Jeonbuk Special Self‑Governing Province Regional Childcare Support Center, said, “Because childcare providers are field professionals who visit families directly to deliver services, their ability to respond to emergencies is directly linked to the safety of infants and young children. We will continue to expand practical, field‑centered training to further strengthen professional expertise and safety‑management capabilities.”

Im Mi‑suk, Director of the Women's and Family Division, Jeonbuk Special Self‑Governing Province, said, “With the implementation of the national qualification system for childcare providers, the importance of professional skills and on‑site response capabilities has grown. We will continue to expand training and support to provide childcare services that provincial residents can trust.”

Meanwhile, the Jeonbuk Special Self‑Governing Province Regional Childcare Support Center is implementing various programs—such as job training, network building, and on‑site support—to improve the quality of childcare services across the province and to enhance the professionalism of its workforce.
