The Institute for Public Conflict and Local Innovation, affiliated with Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) (Director Ha Dong-hyun), announced on the 11th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Jeonbuk Development Corporation (President Kim Dae-geun) to strengthen the prevention of and response capabilities for public conflicts that may arise during the implementation of construction projects.

The signing ceremony held on the 9th was attended by Professor Ha Dong-hyun (Department of Public Administration, JBNU; Director) and President Kim Dae-geun, as well as the institute's researchers Han Seong-gu, Go Jae-geun, and Kim Su-yong; Jo Kyung-ho, Director of External Cooperation of Jeonbuk Development Corporation; Manager Lee Ha-neul; and other officials from both organizations.

Through this agreement, the two organizations plan to expand cooperation across various areas, including research and advisory services for the prevention and management of public conflicts; support for conflict impact assessments and conflict diagnosis and analysis; education and training to strengthen conflict management capabilities; and consulting on conflicts related to local issues.

Director Ha Dong-hyun said, "Because local development projects are directly linked to residents' living spaces, procedural fairness, resident acceptance, and trust-building among stakeholders are important. Through this agreement, we will establish a system to diagnose and prevent conflicts in major projects in advance and strengthen the cooperative foundation for seeking sustainable community solutions."

President Kim Dae-geun said, "The ability to prevent public conflicts in advance and respond promptly is key to regional coexistence. Through cooperation with the institute, we will strengthen communication with local communities and lead sustainable development."

Meanwhile, the Institute for Public Conflict and Local Innovation, affiliated with JBNU, was selected in December 2022 as the first conflict management research institution designated by the Office for Government Policy Coordination outside the Seoul metropolitan area. Through re-designation in December 2025, it has expanded its activities beyond education to include conflict consulting. Based on this, it supports conflict prevention and resolution for local governments and public agencies, contributing to regional integration and consensus-building.
