Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Department of Sociology graduate Shin Yujung has been re-elected to the 13th Jeonju City Council. Councilor Shin, who proudly secured a place among the 19 incumbent councilors who successfully defended their seats in this election, once again received recognition from residents for the legislative achievements she demonstrated over the past four years through hands-on efforts.

Councilor Shin has actively applied the social insight and sharp understanding of social phenomena she developed while studying in the Department of Sociology at JBNU to her legislative work, leaving an exemplary precedent as a politician from the Department of Sociology.

During the 12th council, she held key positions including Vice-Chair of the Council Operations Committee in the latter term, and served on the Culture and Economy Committee and the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts. In these roles she carried out meticulous legislative work advocating for the rights and interests of the socially disadvantaged and vulnerable groups.

The JBNU Department of Sociology stated that Shin demonstrated deep empathy for the socially disadvantaged and exceptional passion for seeking community-based alternatives since her university days. They expressed their expectation that, entering the 13th council with an even greater presence, Councilor Shin will continue to carefully attend to the lives of Jeonju citizens based on her increasingly refined insight.

'The communal values and the insight into social issues that I learned in the Department of Sociology classrooms and in the field during my university years have been the greatest asset sustaining my legislative work over the past four years,' she said. 'I am deeply grateful for the warm congratulations and support from my professors, senior and junior colleagues, and other department members.'

She added, 'I believe the trust residents placed in me and the support from my department are a mandate to think more deeply about and resolve local community problems. Drawing on the dynamism of youth and a sociological perspective, I will work to bring about tangible changes that citizens can feel.'
