Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) G-Lamp Project Group has officially launched the 'LAB Tour Program', allowing local high school students to directly experience university laboratories and beginning active efforts to cultivate future research talent.

This program is a field-oriented educational initiative designed to provide practical assistance in major selection and career planning by enabling high school students to experience the university's education and research environment in advance. It is structured to go beyond simple visits, offering hands-on exposure to real research settings and opportunities to deepen understanding of disciplines through interaction with researchers.

The program includes LAB tours, demonstrations of advanced research equipment, and researcher mentoring. Participating high schools are connected with G-Lamp-affiliated departmental research laboratories to offer tailored experiential opportunities. Through this, students can observe university research up close and explore specific academic fields that suit them.

In its recent inaugural session, students from Yanghyeon High School in Jeonju visited the G-Lamp shared instrumentation room in Building 2 of the College of Natural Science to experience advanced research infrastructure firsthand. Through mentoring with Dr. Yerin Yang of the Department of Molecular Biology (supervising professor Ji-min Yang), students gained an understanding of the actual processes of life science research and broadened their vivid perception of the research environment by observing various analytical instruments and laboratory settings.

During the program, students encountered not only theoretical learning but also practical research procedures and equipment operation cases, enhancing their understanding of the latest research trends in basic science and the university research environment. It is expected to provide motivation for their growth as future researchers.

Jeonghwan Lee, Director of the JBNU G-Lamp Project Group, stated, 'We hope high school students can design their aptitudes and career paths more concretely by directly experiencing the university research environment.' He added, 'JBNU will continue to expand high school–university cooperative programs linked with the local community and play a leading role in cultivating future research talent.'

Starting with the LAB Tour program, the JBNU G-Lamp Project Group plans to continuously expand basic science lectures for children and youth and high school visitation programs to strengthen educational cooperation with the local community and to advance the talent cultivation system based on basic science. As this program proactively opens the university's excellent research infrastructure to regional future talent, it is evaluated as a stepping stone for JBNU to establish itself as a central axis of regional innovation and talent development.
