The '2026 Jeonbuk Science Dream Nurturing Education,' which will nurture the dreams of scientific talent in the Jeonbuk region, has made a vigorous start.

Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Center for Gifted Education in Science (Director Gu Ja-chun) announced on the 23rd that it held the entrance ceremony for the Jeonbuk Science Dream Nurturing Education at the College of Education Science Building and celebrated the new start of 50 elementary students from North Jeolla Province.

The program is organized by the North Jeolla Province Lifelong Education Scholarship Promotion Institute, and the JBNU Center for Gifted Education in Science has been commissioned to operate part of the curriculum. The education will run from May to September this year and will focus on four fields—mathematics, biology, geology, and IT convergence—through weekend classes, intensive summer vacation courses, and field trips to strengthen students' scientific inquiry abilities.

At the entrance ceremony, participating students and their parents attended, and the program was introduced and an orientation was held.

In his welcoming remarks, Director Gu Ja-chun said that science does not begin with grand or difficult matters but starts from curiosity about small phenomena around us — asking "Why is that so?" He emphasized that an attitude of continuously asking questions without fearing failure is more important than getting the correct answer. He added that he hopes students will learn the joy of sharing ideas, collaborating with friends, and solving problems.

The JBNU Center for Gifted Education in Science was launched in 1998 as the "Jeonbuk University Science Gifted Education Center" within the Science Education Research Institute of the College of Education and was elevated in 2002 to the university-affiliated "Center for Gifted Education in Science." Now in its 29th year since establishment, the center has produced a total of 5,589 graduates as of last year and has established itself as the leading institution for science gifted education in the Jeonbuk region.
