Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) put into practice the value of sharing created jointly by students and campus members, bringing a warm resonance to the campus. On the 22nd at 1:30 p.m., JBNU held a 'Kongseal Package' distribution event at the Student Town Plaza and delivered packages conveying support to university students nationwide who are facing financial difficulties.
'Kongseal' is a student cooperative initiative rooted in the spirit of sharing of our ancestors — the idea that of three beans, one goes to the bird, one to the insect, and the remaining one to people. Since it first began in the second semester of 2018, it has distributed 6,502 packages to 1,526 students nationwide, steadily spreading a culture of sharing across campuses.
At the event, packages intended for 240 students from 33 universities nationwide were prepared. Each package contained instant rice and soup provided by the student cooperative, side dishes, snacks, and sponsored items, with an estimated value of about 35,000 won. The packages added the sentiment of 'a meal of encouragement' sent by JBNU to students who are far away.
Notably this year, President Yang O-bong, who serves as chair of the JBNU Student Cooperative, personally participated in the packaging, filling the packages alongside students and reinforcing the spirit of sharing. The program was carried out with students planning and members of the student cooperative contributing, and is being recognized as a practical model of sharing that engages the entire university community.
President Yang O-bong said, 'Like the spirit of our ancestors contained in three beans, I hope a culture of looking after one another and sharing together spreads further through our society. I expect that today's small act of sharing will become a great strength for someone and that that sentiment will lead to further acts of sharing.'
Meanwhile, JBNU, which practices solidarity and responsibility toward the local community, plans to further expand an ESG-based culture of sharing led by students and campus members through the Kongseal Package project.
