JBNU has launched efforts to strengthen international cooperation with the University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine), centering on collaborative research and expanded student exchanges in the biomedical and Physical AI fields, and to pursue an MOU in the future.

JBNU announced on the 21st that a delegation composed of key UC Irvine officials recently visited and held close discussions on cooperation measures between the two universities. The visit included Lars Walton, Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff to the Chancellor; Brian Hervey, Vice Chancellor for Advancement and Alumni Relations; Lily Wu, Director of Global External Relations and Chancellor's Advisory Professor; and Professor Hye‑Won Shin, Director of Korea Partnerships.

The delegation began with a campus tour, met with President Yang O-bong, visited the International Center and the Physical AI Center, and attended a dinner, during which they directly reviewed JBNU's educational and research infrastructure.

Through the discussions, the two universities reached broad agreement on overall measures to expand student exchanges and strengthen academic cooperation. In particular, they focused on exploring possibilities for collaborative research in advanced convergence fields by combining UC Irvine's research capabilities in biomedical and medical areas with JBNU's competitiveness in the Physical AI field.

The two universities also agreed on the need to establish a formal cooperation framework to secure a foundation for continued exchanges and decided to continue discussions on the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding in the future.

President Yang O-bong said, "We are deeply honored to engage in exchange and cooperation with a world-class university. We will further expand our strategic cooperation network with excellent global universities and continue to strengthen our internationalization and research collaboration capabilities."
