Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Department of Sociology Ph.D. candidate Chae-rin Hwang recently received the 'CaseStat Early-Career Researcher Award,' hosted by the Korean Sociological Association, at the '2026 Korean Sociological Association Early Career Scholars Symposium' held at Korea University.
Jointly awarded by the Korean Sociological Association and CaseStat, the award was established to identify and encourage outstanding research by promising early-career scholars.
At the symposium, Hwang presented her research titled 'Ritual Performance of the Anything Flag and the Reconfiguration of Collective Solidarity: Focusing on the Yoon Seok-yeol Resignation Plaza Case', receiving high praise from the judges.
The symposium took place at Korea University's Central Plaza B1 CCL and the 100th Anniversary Memorial Hall 1st-floor L Lounge. Early-career sociologists from across the country participated and shared their latest research findings.
Chae-rin Hwang, who received the award, said, 'I am pleased that the time I spent learning and reflecting in the Department of Sociology at JBNU has borne academic fruit.' She added, 'I hope to continue expanding sociological discourse through research that captures voices from the field.'
