JBNU will provide full tuition support to doctoral students participating in the 4th phase of the BK21 Project Division (Brain Korea 21) education and research groups (teams). The university is converting support from half tuition to full tuition to reduce graduate students' financial burdens and increase research focus.
This policy revision was introduced to create a stable environment in which doctoral students can devote themselves to study and research. JBNU has until now provided partial tuition and research scholarships to participating graduate students through the BK21 Project Division, but intensified competition among universities to secure high-level researchers has recently underscored the need for more substantive support.
Accordingly, JBNU plans to raise research immersion among the next generation of scholars, attract outstanding talent, and simultaneously strengthen graduate education and research competitiveness by providing full tuition support to doctoral students participating in the BK21 Project Division.
A JBNU official said, "The doctoral period is the stage for training key personnel who determine national research competitiveness. By removing the tuition burden, we will establish a foundation that allows graduate students to concentrate on research and further solidify a talent development system equipped with global-level research capabilities."
JBNU will continue to expand research scholarships, international collaborative research, and Industry–University Collaboration programs linked to the BK21 Project Division, further enhancing the graduate student support system and accelerating its advancement as a research-oriented university.
