Professor Hye-won Jeong, appointed this March at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) in the College of Nursing, donated a development fund of 20 million won to commemorate her new start at JBNU and to support the university's development and the cultivation of global nursing talent.
On April 27, JBNU held a donation ceremony in the President's Office at University Headquarters, attended by President Oh-bong Yang; Professor Hye-won Jeong; Hye-young Kim, Dean of the College of Nursing; Young-ran Yang, Associate Dean of the College of Nursing; and Ji-hyun Baek, Chair of the Department of Nursing. The university expressed gratitude for Professor Jeong's noble intention to support university development and the education of future generations.
The donated fund of 20 million won will be used, in accordance with Professor Jeong's wishes, for scholarships for College of Nursing students and for improvements to the educational environment.
This donation was made by Professor Jeong, who became part of the JBNU community this year, to share responsibility for university development as an educator and to promote qualitative growth in nursing education, which is directly linked to public health.
At the ceremony, Professor Jeong said, "As I begin anew as a member of JBNU, I decided to make this donation to contribute, however modestly, to the growth of the university and its students. A university is more than a place to transmit knowledge; it is the foundation for the future of the region and society. As an educator, it is natural to share that responsibility."
She added, "I hope this donation will be used not only for scholarships for students in need of financial support but also to establish a digital and artificial intelligence (AI)-based nursing education environment. I expect our students to grow into better-prepared professional nurses and become a key driving force in improving the quality of regional healthcare."
President Oh-bong Yang presented Professor Jeong with a plaque of appreciation and said, "We deeply thank Professor Hye-won Jeong for becoming a new member of the JBNU community and for showing warm affection for her students. We will honor the professor's noble intention by using the funds carefully so that our students can be reborn as innovative nursing professionals leading the era of digital transformation."
Professor Jeong is an educator who began her career as a veteran nurse with clinical experience at Chonnam National University Hospital. She currently serves as a KALS instructor for the Korean Association of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and as deputy editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Korean Society of Adult Nursing, among other roles, and is leading advances in the nursing field. In particular, she is an expert in simulation-based education and in nursing education innovation using virtual and mixed reality (VR/MR) and artificial intelligence. She continues to conduct active research to establish future-oriented nursing education models.
