Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) held a memorial service on March 23 at the Cheongjeong Scholarship Hall in Jeonju for the late Chair Han Su‑ok of the Cheongjeong Scholarship Foundation, who donated her entire estate.
A memorial service honoring the late Han Su‑ok, who donated high‑value real estate for JBNU students and later passed away, was held on the 23rd at the Cheongjeong Scholarship Hall located in Sangrim‑dong, Wansan‑gu, Jeonju.
She passed away on March 27, 2012, and bequeathed the vast fortune she had built throughout her life as scholarships. The memorial service, held to commemorate the 14th anniversary of her death, was organized to recall her noble spirit of philanthropy.
Officials from the Jeonbuk National University Development Foundation, this year's scholarship recipients Choi Ga‑hyun and Yang Da‑eun, and family members, some 11 people in total, attended the service. They hold memorial rites each year on the anniversary and continue to carry on the late donor's earnest wish to nurture talent.
The Cheongjeong Scholarship Foundation, established by the late donor, has provided scholarships totaling 28.42 million won to 39 students from 2011 to the present, serving as a cradle for developing outstanding local talent. This year, scholarships will again be awarded to two selected students.
Park Jin‑ho, Vice Chairman of the Jeonbuk National University Development Foundation, who attended on behalf of the Foundation's Chairman, said, 'Through the annual memorial service, we recall the late's noble philosophy of sharing. The precious assets that were donated will become the foundation for our students' dreams, and the university will also do its best to support them.'
Choi Ga‑hyun, a scholarship recipient who attended the memorial service, expressed, 'I wanted to personally convey my gratitude to the late Chair Han Su‑ok for her great generosity, so I joined this event. I will not forget the valuable intentions behind the scholarship, and I will work harder on my studies so that I can grow into a person who will have a positive impact on society in the future.'
