Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) and Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Gwan‑young) have succeeded in attracting a prestigious international academic conference representing the fields of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering to Jeonbuk.
Professors Kang Gil‑seon and Lee Dong‑won of JBNU's Department of Polymer -Nano Science &Technology and Director Jo Seong‑yeon of Jeonbuk Special Self‑Governing Province announced that the 16th International Symposium on Strategic Medical Polymers and Tissue Engineering (FBPS 2027 Conference) will be held for five days from June 7–11, 2027, at the JBNU International Conference Hall. This will be the second time the meeting is held in Korea, the first having been in 2017, ten years ago.
Since its founding in 1995, the FBPS Symposium has been held every two years in the format of a Gordon Conference. Next year’s meeting will mark the 16th edition of the conference.
The symposium covers core areas of future medicine, including stem cells, regenerative medicine, organoids, drug delivery systems (DDS), tissue engineering, biomaterials, 3D printing, gene therapy, and bioimaging. It is regarded as the virtually unique academic platform that has continued for more than 30 years in the related research fields.
The conference will be led by co-chairs Professors Kang Gil‑seon and Lee Dong‑won of the Department of Polymer -Nano Science &Technology and Dr. Kim Cheon‑ho of the Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences.
Some 50 keynote speakers are expected to be invited to this symposium. World-leading scholars who helped establish the academic foundations of the field will be invited from some 20–30 countries, including Professor Rui Reis (University of Minho, Portugal), Professor James J. Yoo (Wake Forest School of Medicine), Professor Claudio Migliares (University of Trento, Italy), Professor Daniel Cohn (Hebrew University, Israel), Professor David Kaplan (Tufts University, USA), and Professor Haksoo Choi (Harvard Medical School).
In particular, former, current, and incoming regional presidents of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS) and the global president will appear on the program. Lectures will be delivered by Dr. Lee Hae‑bang, Professor Yasuhiko Tabata, Professor John Fisher, Professor Rui Reis, and co‑chair Professor Kang Gil‑seon, a former TERMIS‑AP president. In addition, editors of leading international journals, top domestic researchers, and corporate representatives will participate as speakers, creating a truly stellar lineup.
Thanks to this lineup, 500 to 700 participants from around the world are expected to visit Jeonbuk. Jeonbuk Special Self‑Governing Province stated it will continue to provide active support and cooperation for the symposium to revitalize the regional strategic industry in the Red‑Bio sector.
Detailed information about the conference is available on the FBPS'2027 official website (www.FBPS2027.org).
