Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) 2025 First Semester Degree Conferment Ceremony… 3,738 Graduates

Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) 2025 First Semester Degree Conferment Ceremony was held on February 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Samsung Arts Center.

 

The ceremony was grandly held with approximately 2,000 attendees, including President Yang O-bong, University Headquarters officials and Academic Affairs Committee members, former presidents, Choi Byeong-seon, President of the Alumni Association, as well as graduates and their parents.

 

The ceremony began with an academic procession from the University Headquarters to the Samsung Arts Center. President Yang O-bong delivered the commencement address, followed by congratulatory remarks from officials and guests, and certificates were presented to outstanding graduates, among others.

 

President Yang O-bong conferred degrees on a total of 3,738 graduates: 193 doctoral, 661 master's, and 2,884 bachelor's degree recipients.

 

In addition, 118 students, including Ju Gippeum (Department of Korean Language & Literature, College of Humanities), were selected as outstanding graduates and received certificates. Fifty-seven students, including Kim Seo-yeon (Department of Korean Education, College of Education), received the Core Talent Award, and sixty students, including Mai Mai (Department of Energy StorageㆍConversion Engineering, Graduate School), were honored with the Outstanding Research Award.

 

In his commencement address, President Yang O-bong urged students moving beyond the campus into society to become talents who, in the AI era, embrace challenges and learning, possess convergent thinking and empathy, and uphold ethics and a sense of responsibility.

 

President Yang also emphasized, "Since its founding in 1947, JBNU has led regional and national development, and recently it has been advancing toward a world-class university through securing major National R&D Programs and through educational and research innovation. You are the history and the achievement of JBNU itself."

 

Finally, President Yang conveyed his congratulations, saying, "Now you will go forth into a larger world under the new title of JBNU alumni," and "I hope JBNU's name shines wherever you go, and I look forward to your achievements across the globe."
