Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) held the 'Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Namwon Glocal Campus Development Launch Ceremony' at the Namwon Glocal Campus at 3:00 p.m. on the 13th and officially announced to internal and external stakeholders the full-scale implementation of the campus development project.

The launch ceremony marked the transition of the Namwon Glocal Campus development project from administrative procedures to an actual operational phase. It was especially significant as the national government, local authorities, and the university collaborated to repurpose state and publicly owned assets, creating the country's first cooperative regional regeneration innovation model.

The Namwon Glocal Campus project will rehabilitate a closed school site into a space integrating education, settlement, and entrepreneurship, establishing a hub for regional economic revitalization and global talent development. Designed as a campus dedicated to international students, it is drawing attention as a new university model that simultaneously addresses regional depopulation risks and the growing demand for global education.

Building on the Glocal University project, JBNU will establish three departments at the Namwon Glocal Campus—the Department of Glocal Commerce, the Department of Korean Language, and the Department of K-Entertainment—and from this year will operate a specialized curriculum focused on approximately 250 international students.

The ceremony at the Namwon Glocal Campus began with a pre-ceremony performance featuring the Namwon Municipal Nongak troupe's jisinbalgi ritual, followed by the commemorative ceremony, plaque unveiling, and facility tour. Approximately 70 people attended, including President Yang Oh-bong and senior officials, representatives from central government ministries, key figures from Jeollabuk-do and Namwon City, and presidents of universities in the province.

In particular, the replacement of the main gate plaque and the installation of a symbolic campus sculpture served to mark the Namwon Glocal Campus's new beginning.

In his commemorative address, President Yang Oh-bong said, 'The Glocal Campus is not merely a campus expansion but a strategic hub where the region and the university plan their future together,' adding, 'We will develop it beyond educational innovation into a new model of regional regeneration—a sustainable, mutually beneficial platform where the region and the university grow together.'

JBNU presented a vision to attract global talent to the Namwon Glocal Campus and to promote specialized education linked to local industries and cultural resources, aiming to elevate Namwon into an international education city.

The development of the Namwon Glocal Campus is expected to lead to a large influx of international students to the Namwon area in the future. This is anticipated to stimulate local businesses and contribute to population inflow. JBNU plans to cooperate with Namwon City to establish support systems for foreign residents and to progressively expand programs linking daily life, culture, and industry.
