Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) will hold the 'Jeonbuk National University Namwon Glocal Campus Establishment Launch Ceremony' at Namwon Glocal Campus at 2:30 p.m. on the 13th, and will officially announce to internal and external audiences the full-scale implementation of the campus establishment project.

This launch marks the transition of the Namwon Glocal Campus project from administrative procedures to tangible operational implementation. It is particularly meaningful as the nation, local governments, and the university have cooperated to regenerate state- and publicly-owned assets, creating the country’s first mutually beneficial regional regeneration innovation model.

The Namwon Glocal Campus project repurposes a closed-school site into a space integrating education, settlement, and entrepreneurship. It aims to establish a hub for regional economic revitalization and the cultivation of global talent. Developed as a campus dedicated to international students, it is being recognized as a new university model that simultaneously addresses regional population decline and the expanding demand for global education.

Based on the Glocal University project, JBNU will establish three departments at Namwon Glocal Campus: the Department of Glocal Commerce, the Department of Korean Language, and the Department of K-Entertainment. From this year, it plans to operate a specialized curriculum focused on international students.

The launch ceremony at Namwon Glocal Campus will begin with a pre-ceremony performance featuring the Namwon City Municipal Nongak Troupe's Jisinbalgi, followed by a commemorative ceremony, a plaque unveiling, and a facility tour. Approximately 70 people are expected to attend, including JBNU President Yang O-bong and other senior officials, representatives from central government ministries, key figures from Jeollabuk-do and Namwon City, and presidents of provincial universities.

In particular, the replacement of the main gate plaque and the installation of a campus symbolic sculpture will symbolically proclaim the new beginning of Namwon Glocal Campus.

On the day, President Yang O-bong will emphasize that Namwon Glocal Campus is not a simple campus expansion but a strategic hub where the region and the university design the future together. JBNU plans to present a vision to attract global talent through the Namwon Glocal Campus and to elevate Namwon into an international education city by promoting specialized education linked to local industry and cultural resources.

The establishment of Namwon Glocal Campus is expected to lead to a large influx of international students, which is anticipated to revitalize local commerce and contribute to population inflow. JBNU will cooperate with Namwon City to establish support systems for foreign residents and will gradually expand programs that connect daily life, culture, and industry.

President Yang O-bong stated, 'The Namwon Glocal Campus will become a new model of regional regeneration beyond educational innovation,' and added, 'We will develop it into a sustainable, mutually beneficial platform where the region and the university grow together.'
